Let's get ready for online classes #2
Thanks for all the positive feedback about online classes. If you haven’t already followed the steps in “Let’s get ready for online classes #1”, please do that before going further. It's here: https://www.fitnesswithalison.com/single-post/2020/03/19/Lets-get-ready-for-online-classes-1
Please be aware that some things may change to enable me to keep everything as simple for you as possible. For example in terms of you making payments, I’m starting to wonder if paypal is the best thing. I will try and get everything clear in one final document before we launch. In the meantime, please keep learning along with me.
Fitness instructors are not allowed to use Skype for providing online classes. Skype can only be used for a personal call or a business call from a workplace so I am using something similar called Zoom.
What does live-streaming mean?
The classes will be live, like live television programmes. We will meet up online at an arranged time and the class will start. We will all be in our own homes in front of our devices with our fitness gear on! The class will be shown (“streamed”) online as it is actually happening and you will be able to see me and hear my instructions as I give them. On our screens we will be able to see ourselves and anybody else who is there.
The class will not be recorded so you can’t re-watch it, or pause it, or stop it part-way through.
What to do now
Firstly, decide which device you are going to use to access the classes. Laptop, tablet or smart tv is recommended as phone screens are small. During the classes you will need to have your device somewhere you can see and hear everything that’s going on and you will need to go onto the internet.
The next stage is to get Zoom on your device that you are going to use to access the classes. You will need to download Zoom from the internet so you need to be online. It doesn’t cost you anything. It is a good idea to do this in advance before the classes start rather than leaving it to the last minute, so that’s why I’m telling you about it now.
ANDROID. If your device is an android one, you can download the zoom app from the Google Play Store where you normally get apps from. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=us.zoom.videomeetings
APPLE. If you will access the classes on an i-pad/i-phone you can download the zoom app from the app store where you normally get apps. https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/zoom-cloud-meetings/id546505307
WINDOWS/MAC. If you are going to use your Windows or Mac laptop, you can download zoom from https://zoom.us/download Click on the blue rectangle with the words “download” on it under the heading.
In my next post I will explain how to join a zoom meeting. You may have already seen the video for that. Feel free go ahead and tinker about on zoom or wait for me to provide further information. With any instruction video, you can always pause it if it is going too quickly for you, and allow each stage to make sense.
Please try to get zoom onto your device and then we can go onto the next stage.
